“When parents, educators, librarians, and mentors read with children, they give a gift that will nourish souls for a lifetime. Today, Americans young and old will take time to get lost in a story and do their part to cultivate the next generation of talent and intellect.” — President Barack Obama
Today is Read Across America Day, and the start of a week-long celebration of the joys and benefits of reading to and with children.
Grab your hat and read with the Cat in the Hat on Monday, March 3, 2014, for the 17th annual Read Across America Day. The Seussical celebration kicks off a week of reading across the nation as National Education Association (NEA) members gather students, parents, and community members together to share their love of reading.
The National Education Association is building a nation of readers through its signature program, Read Across America. Now in its 17th year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.
“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child.”
